Retail Takes Flight: Walmart Expands Drone Delivery Network

Walmart is set to bring drone-powered deliveries to millions more Americans by extending its partnership with Wing across five major metro areas.

Building on successful operations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Walmart and drone operator Wing will now roll out delivery services to 100 additional stores in cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. This expansion marking the largest drone delivery effort by a U.S. retailer aims to fulfill orders within 30 minutes for items under 5 pounds. Walmart has already completed around 150,000 drone deliveries since 2021, with customers embracing the service for quick delivery of essentials like baby formula and medicine. With deliveries made through the Wing app and free for Walmart+ members, the company sees drone logistics as a key innovation in redefining retail convenience.
